New stormwater rates go into effect Oct. 1. (CPWG Engineering)
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Effective Oct. 1, the city of St. Petersburg will implement a tiered billing structure for stormwater utility rates.
Currently, single-family properties are charged a flat fee. All non-single-family properties are charged a rate based on square footage of impervious surface area, or area that does not allow water to seep into the ground.
This new tiered structure will classify all properties into tiers, based on the square footage of impervious surface area located on their property, and will more equitably distribute costs proportional to stormwater runoff.
All stormwater customers will see a change to their rates.
Starting April 15, stormwater customers will have access to a Stormwater Review and Appeals Portal by clicking here. Through this online portal, customers can view the rate specific to their property based on the calculated impervious surface area.
Additionally, if a customer feels the surface area identified on their property has been found in error, he will have the capability to and submit an appeal for reassessment if desired.
The tiered stormwater rates will go into effect with the other utility rates on Oct. 1, 2019.
The city will host informational public meetings on the new stormwater tiered rate program beginning in April. These meetings will provide information on the program, give an overview of the online review and appeals portal and give direction on a credits and incentives program available to single and non-single-family customers.
